Some pictures don't need any explanation. This one does. So let's go...

To make a sculpture in bronze there are different stages / steps.

Step one: sculpt whatever you want in a soft material like wax or polystyrene

Step two: Bury them into what seems to be black sand in the picture. In reality it is silica

Step three = the picture: Dig the silica to make the paths along wich the melt metal is going to run to the different sculptures

Step four: pour the melt metal. When it reaches the sculptures, the wax or the polystyrene burn and disappear leaving the space for the metal that takes the shape of the sculpture

Step five: let the metal cool down a bit and remove the metal... here is your sculpture

Conclusion ? Here Thibaut (that's his name) is digging the paths in the silica. The white piece we can see is of the sculptures that were put in it.
