Photographer's Note

Hello everyone!
I am really happy to celebrate my second anniversary on TE! I have enjoyed myself tremendously, I have learnt such a lot, and I have made many friends. Thank you to all the members who have commented my photos and notes, and whose photos I have appreciated .

For this event, I have chosen one ship of the 3000 that were on the sea at Brest that day!
The great reunion of old ships (Brest 2008) was coming to an end and the armada of 1000 ships was heading for Douarnenez to take part in the festival which was at the origin of it all in 1988. In 1992, it took place in Brest for the first time with the continuation in Douarnenez; and this has been renewed ever since, every 4 years.
I was lucky to be on the sea that day, and the sight was breath taking. I had never seen so many ships in all my life, as 2000 private boats were following the 1000 of the Armada!
This particular ship is "Astrid", the largest brig ("brick" in French) from the Netherlands. It has 450 square metres of sails, is 42m long, 6.4m wide and can take 60 passengers. It was originally built in 1924 to fish herring, before practising merchant coastal navigation in the North and Baltic seas.

In WS, I have added some views of the sea that day and of some other ships.
Also, if you are interested in ships, you can look on The theme Brest ship festival, 1992 2008 2012.
I have also found a group theme created by blakitan: Traditional ship. , and created my own Traditional ships
