Photographer's Note

Voici une vue du parc archéologique de Fourvière, à Lyon.
Débutées en 1933, les fouilles ont permis de mettre au jour des vestiges exceptionnels, au premier rang desquels se trouve le Grand Théatre, ici représenté.
Edifié par les romains au 1er siècle avant JC, le théatre pouvait alors contenir 10.000 personnes pour des concerts ou conférences.
Il est encore employé pour ces usages de nos jours, notamment durant le festival "Les Nuits de Fourvière" qui ponctue traditionnellement les étés lyonnais.

This is a sight of the archaeological park of Fourvière, in Lyon.
Begun in 1933, the excavations unearthed some exceptional vestiges, like the Large Theatre I shot here.
Built by romans during 1st century before JC, the theatre could then contain 10.000 people for concerts or conferences.
It is still employed for these uses nowadays, in particular during the festival "Les Nuits de Fourvière" (Fourvière Nights), which traditionally punctuates the Lyons summers.

Matinal ce post.
Très beau résultat, j'aime bien la lumière douce.
La colonne sert bien de point d'accroche.
Il y a une bonne présence des lignes sur la colonne et sur le sol.

Joli cliché de ce théâtre antique bien mis en valeur par un bel éclairage. Les lattes du sol accrochent bien le regard.

UNe bonne composition graphique avec ces diférents élements, cylindre , parralèles, courbes, (voir un cours de géométrie!)

The colours, patterns and lighting of this shot are excellent, JB.
I like how you have framed it, with the pillar 'looking out' upon the 'audience'. Its shadow and the lines of the stage lead us nicely to the seating.
Well seen and captured.

It is a very good HDR. well balanced. doesn't look unnatural as many HDR's.

La colonne de premier plan equilibre bien la courbe des rangees du theatre, bon placement. Ce serait bien de voir cette photo pendnt les spectacles que tu decris, mais il ne te serait peut etre pas possible de prendre de ce meme point.

Très belle vue d'ensemble de ce théâtre. La colonne tronquée et veinée est symbolique du passé culturel du lieu. Les couleurs des pierres et ciel sont très agréables. Belle réalisation.

très bien vu ce HDR : il réveille la compo que je trouve très bien équilibrée. Très bon choix de cadrage.... reste juste à revenir en juillet pour faire des photos de concert ;o)

Hello JB -

Oops, someones shadow is in the image. It has been disguised very well and is almost unnoticeable. You are really getting into the HDR technique but was it really necessary in this scene? Did you have 3-5 stops of difference between the shadows and highlights? Technically this is a well executed and composed image. Bravo.

C'est très difficile, JB, de photographier de tels lieux mais là tu as su profiter du plancher pour faire une perspective et surtout d'une belle lumière. La présence du vestige de colonne à gauche donne de la profondeur de champ et un point d'accroche pour le regard.

Bonjour, JB. La colonne de l'avant-plan donne une excellente profondeur à ta photo. Le plancher avec toutes ces lignes nous conduit vers l'arrière-plan où l'on découvre les gradins superbement éclairés. La lumière est d'ailleurs excellente.

Beautiful and classical scene of this amphitheatre. The colors are well rendered and the light well used to enhance the good colours. Good perspective with the pillar on the left and the wooden floor to give us an in-depth view of the place. Thanks JB.

It reminds me more of the ancient outdoor Greek theatres rather tham Roman. The HDR seems to work well to eliminate the dark shadows without flattening the light. Another good work.

Bon, tu vas me faire changer d'avis sur le HDR. Mais ici, c'est utilisé avec sobriété et cela devient utile pour avoir une belle lumière, bien mise en valeur dans ce théatre aux pierres chaudes.

Bonjour JB,
The light here is extraordinary, with very fine shadow effects. I like the graphism here and the way the pedestal on the left anchors the scene. The trees in the distance also provide good balance. This is a good example of the merits of HDR without that over processed look. Very fine work, JB. I may have to alter my itinerary in France to take this in...Cheers.

How wonderful it should be to watch a spectacle on this amphitheatre!
About the photo I must say 'congratulations' as you improved very well the light all over the photo using the HDR technique and you made it without blowing any part of the photo. The colours are also superb and this low light atmosphere typical from the end of the afternoon is fantastic.

I really like this .. the (and your control of it ...) is just great (even with your shadow ..) .. what really intrigues me is the vertical lines of the boards interact with the textures and natural lines of the rest of the scene .. beautiful and thoughtful.

J'ai adopté le HDR en stitch à la place du bracketing, cela fait plus naturel car les différents plans sont exposés réellements et Autopano gère trs bien le mixage de l'exposition avec l'assemblage, tandis qu'Autostitch donnera un effet filtre dégradé Cokin avec une barre de séparation d'exposition.
Ta composition est bonne et la colonne est bien mise en évidence.
