Photographer's Note

Continuing my Silvacane series...

SILVACANE ABBEY is a former Cistercian monastery in the municipality of La Roque-d'Anthéron in the Provence. It was founded in the 12th century and ceased to be an ecclesiastical property in the French Revolution.

It is one of the three Cistercian abbeys in Provence known as the "three sisters of Provence" ("les trois soeurs provençales"), the other two being Sénanque and Le Thoronet.

Visiting these abbeys were a highlight on a trip we made in the area last year. Especially Silvacane we found most impressive, maybe also because we were lucky enough to be the only visitors.

THIS PICTURE shows the inside of the abandonned abbey. In fact, this is not the main church dome, but a smaller one next to it.
