Martel is a french commune, located in the department of the Lot of the Midi-Pyrenees area, populated of 1467 Martelais, distributed on 36 km ², that is to say 41 hab. /km ².

Built in XIe century, on a causse, became the Causse of Martel. In XIIe and XIVe centuries during the One hundred Year old war, it was surrounded by two strengthened enclosures and was not taken. Delivered to the English by the treaty of Brétigny in 1360, Du Guesclin took it again in 1374. The city preserves a considerable architectural heritage.
