Photographer's Note

The village of Croce is located in the region Castagniccia. Located on a promontory, offers a magnificent view of the Pieve d'Ampugnani.
The church was built in 1660 by Father Giulio Francesco Bonetti in his inventory of 1781. More recent research shows that the work dates from 1688. It was built by the architect Domenico Lombardo Baina.
The plan shows a modern church nave lined with chapels between buttresses very shallow. The second of these halls is dedicated to the souls in Purgatory. (see WS)
His picture is hidden by two others. First a bit of an Immaculate Conception, followed by crucifixion dated from the late 19th sc.
It's a piece that the fabric that I offer. It represents a penitent in a brotherhood called in Corsica "Battutu. These brotherhoods have emerged in the 1300s to help the poorest. Each fraternity has its rituals, its costumes and songs. They organize the feast of the patron saint of the city or village. The most beautiful processions are for Easter, one of Sartene is most famous: the catenacciu.

Also with a touch of humor ... for those who would link in with members of the FLNC, I can not tell if it pertains to the "usual" or "historical". Question asked by a tourist guide at the Ethnological Museum of Corté in the room where fraternities are placed mannequins dressed in different "pénitent". I will not mention the nationality for not hurting anyone ... ..
