Photographer's Note
Ministry of Culture
After the remarkable, unexpected and beautiful combination of the new extension of the Museum De Fundatie on the top of the former palace of Justice in Zwolle, today you can see the new enclosure of two old buildings with a new façade to put two buildings together to get one new.
You can find this fascinating façade just in the neighbourhood of the Louvre. It is the building of the “Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication”.
As usual you can find an overall picture of the building in the Workshop
Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication – Paris
Construction year: 2006
Architect(s): Soler Francis | Druot Frederic
Address: 3 rue de Valois, PARIS, France
Latitude: 48.8634 - Longitude: 2.3379
The aim of Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication was to regroup on a single site all the services of the Ministry of Culture, previously dispersed over 17 different locations around the city. Architect Francis Soler resolved the major constraints -disparity in dates and indifferent architectural style of the two existing buildings- into elements of unity and identity. This unity is omnipresent in the internal space planning: the two buildings have been remodelled in their substance to require the obtained density, optimize work spaces and interconnect the different floor levels. The other unifying element is purely architectural. In the manner of Christo, Soler has wrapped the old buildings, walls and roof included, in a continuous organic-weave mesh of steel lace. Without entirely effacing underlying differences, this stainless-steel veil imparts continuity to the disparate volumes. It hangs like a loose net detached from the elevations, its appearance changing in phase with the sun, shadows, day and night. Hello Rob, Strange thing. I wrote the critique in the www site and it was not saved. Very interesting facade of this building that I do not remember from my Paris trip. Maybe I spent too much time in museums. Excellent composition. There are some small red points, I wonder what they are. To open the iron bars?

Hello Rob,
The greenish metal shutters make an excellent backdrop for the filigree work. I like the lights and exact framing. Clarity is superb. Thanks also for the interesting note.

Bonjour, cher Rob,

Hello Rob,
What a very strange façade. It reminds me of what I have seen when looking inside a computer. I can see that these are very carefully designed patterns, repeating themselves regularly, so the designer most likely didn't use any kind of Pollock technique. But I have never seen a wall covered with this kind of pattern, and this photo brings it closer to us.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Rob,
Though the WS picture gave sense and an inclusive view upon this special façade, the main pic. was the right choice - excellent sharp details of this iron-art work.
tried to find an object to have more scale, only in one or two windows there is a view inside on the lower row.
Anyway, found an excellent point and extraordinary object.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

Hallo Rob,

Saluti

Ciao Rob,
Missed this one. I like the horizontal banding and tight framing on these windows with their distinctive security mesh screens. Good color and saturations and perspective has been well managed. The lower floor allows a glimpse inside. Tfs!
