(three pinions) Circuit of the 25 hillocks

Small history of the rocks of the area

y has 65 million years, the sea Crétacée left the area of Stamps by leaving thick layers of sandstone. 55 million years ago, of sometimes sandy clays were aportées by a river whole coming from the central Solid mass. Then, between -50 and -45 million years, the sea invades the area again. It deposits formations limestones then. This type of deposits continues up to -35 million years.

The depression, consisted the solid masses Armorican, central and Vosgean, is the seat of a lake system which deposited limestones then series argilo-limestones. In average Stampien, a new marine episode develops which deposited sands of Fontainebleau. The wrinkles very marked in the landscape undergo a gresification, whereas in the channels the water limestones of Stamps settle, which end up submerging all the area. The gresification, due to variations of the level of the ground water is at the origin of sandstone chaos.
