Photographer's Note

Well, another sunset... Such an unoriginal subject... But I like them! Especially in this place, my little corner of paradise. I guess we all have somewhere a little corner of paradise, a place we think of when days are difficult, a place we go to when we need to disappear from the world for a little while. A place where we can just sit and watch time going by, without worrying about what the future will bring. It doesn't last, but it sure feels good.

My little corner of paradise is the Chausey island, in Normandy. I have already said a lot about this place in this note. A place that keeps changing every minute, thanks to the most important tides in Europe (up to 14 meters differences between high and low tide).

Here we see the Sound (that's the name in French, Le Sound, pronounced as in "song" without the "g"), one of the few channel of water that remains at any time of the tide (most of the other channels between rocks dry up and become beaches). On the left is the main island, the only one to bear houses, over a hundred of rocks. The Sound is used for mooring and is very busy in the summer, but deserted in the winter because no one lives here full time. The building is an old semaphore, used to guide boats safely to land. If you have very good eyes, the darker line on the horizon is the island of Jersey, some 20 miles in the north-west.

I don't think I'll ever tire of this place. I hope to share a little of my well-being with you for the coming week-end.
