Collegial parochial, Candes-Saint-Martin

The gothic collegial church of 13th 15th 19th centuries, dedicated to Saint-martin, 316-397, officer of the Roman Empire converts with Christianity, bishop of Tours in 371. Historic building.
A church dedicated to Saint-Maurice officer of the Roman Empire martyrized because of its Christian faith around year 300, preceded the collegial one which become parochial, after the French revolution.

Saint-Martin founded in Touraine 6 parishes, of which that of Candes in 387.
It created there a priory, a school and a church which became collegial into 848.
SAINT-MARTIN DIED in CANDES on November 8th, 397.

CANDES-SAINT-MARTIN is a french commune located in the department of Indre-et-Loire of the Center area, populated of 224 Candais in 2007, distributed out of 5.8 km², that is to say 38.8 hab/km².

At the confluence of the VIENNE and LOIRE, in "Douce France", soft France, Candes-Saint-Martin, ONE OF the MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES OF FRANCE, is in the natural Parc regional Loire-Anjou-Touraine, in the middle of the Val of Loire, registered to world patrimoine of UNESCO.

Its house owe their white color with the micaceous chalk of which they are built. Some of its splendid houses date from the 15th century, the other cave-dwelling ones are dug in the cliff which overlooks the village.

_ The LOIRE river, the “last wild river” and longest of France, takes its source at 1048 meters of altitude in the Massif-Central on mount "Mont Gerbier de Jonc", in the Sainte-Eulalie commune in Ardèche departement, and after a course of 1 012.7 kilometers through a catchment area of 117,000 km², 1/5 of the French territory, is thrown by a broad estuary in the Atlantic Ocean in the Loire-Atlantique departement, in Saint-Nazaire, where the flow can go down to 100 m³/s and can very largely exceed 5000 m³/s. the Loire Valley from Sully-sur-Loire in Loiret departement to Saint-Florent-le-Vieil in Maine-et-Loire, is registered since the year 2000 with the World heritage of UNESCO, for its biological diversity and its historical and cultural richness. _ The VIENNE river, takes its source at 875 meters of altitude at the feet of the Audouze mount, 956 m, and of the Puy Lacaux, 912 m, on the of Millevaches plateau, in the commune of Saint-Setiers in Corrèze, and after a course of 362.8 kilometers through a catchment area of 22,105 km², is thrown in the river the Loire, in Candes-Saint-Martin in Indre-et-Loire, where the flow can go down to 25 m³/s, and can reach 3000 m³/s.
