Photographer's Note
Skating path opened on the frozen lake Näsijärvi.
Shot from Pyynikki ridge, with plenty of zoom.
Somewhat cropped, I tried to find good composition of those curves and shadows.
Title Into the great wide open by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on the album with the same name, 1991.

What a great composition.
I like the fading color starting from light clue to dark blue and back to the light blue.
The curves are a good addition to that.

A great shot of a wonderful scene! The blue and white is nicely broken up by the small "dots" of the people walking on the lake and the curves look like some giant has slid down a hill. I really like this photo!

Excellent. You achieved your aims and a lot more.
Everything works here - and some of the figures look like little penguins to me!
The central yellow pole is a subtle touch.
Thanks

Very very well captured snow desert!!!
And the curves and the shadows are awesome.

Hello Kari,
Wow! This is awesome, didn't know you do things like this in Finland!
Aside from being surprised I find this a most appealing image! The curved track is amazing, and of course it is a good idea also for skaters since it is a lot more fun to do curves that what it is to do straight stretches..! That much I remember from my skating days, hehehehe!
Anyway, this is a fine and educational image and I like to see the people dotted all over!
Greetings,
Pablo -

That is definitely a very vast landscape.
I love this photo ... Summers have still not reached the part of Canada I am living in and this photo almost makes me nostalgic for the winters ... the crisp cold air ... snow ... everything frozen (winters are beautiful too).
I like the gradient of colour in this photo.
thanks for sharing this photo

Hi Kari!
Wow I love this shot. The shadows that give the snow that blue color, and so you get some sort of "stripes" alternating blue and white, and the curve that crosses the stripes, and the small people to give the scale, the light. Everything is perfect!

The view is incredible. It looks like a giant serpent went there :-) "Plenty of zoom" made it bit difficult to judge the distance so it looks like it is simply endless!

Hallo Kari, this photo of yours has caught my attention some time already, but I probably didn’t have time to comment on it. I was impressed with its simplicity and peaceful appeal created by those lovely white / blue tones. The very smooth feel is created by those beautiful curves on the snow. Presence of people just give us feeling of scale. Very lovely work. Lucie

Impressive shot! You've nicely captured the contrast between the blueish snow and the white path curves.
Thus the poeple really gives us an amazing idea of the space.
