Photographer's Note

Another shot at the newly emerged darters from the day before yesterday. Once they're on the wing it's quite difficult to get a shot in from this angle, as they seem to consider you more threatening when seen from the front (I don't blame them ;-)). But this one was not yet in a position to vote with its feet (or wings, as it were). So, I decided to try out the combination of my close up filters, +2 + +1 = +3 diopter, which gives a very shallow DOF. For this reason no part of the darter's body is within DOF range, but the eye details rather fascinate me ;-) The white dots on its face and eyes *were* there, but what they are, I don't know. Dust, perhaps, or dried up residue from the body fluids used for pumping itself up to full darter size. I thought about cloning them out but decided against it. This was how it looked.
Treatment: Crop, saturation +10, USM and resize.
