Photographer's Note

Following a demonstration from the alternative community, Christiania, to the supreme court, this old fellow was in front. He might qualify as one of the "old hippies", who took part in establishing Christiania in the 1970s. Back then, the buildings, which belonged to the army, were empty and students, artists, artisans and other youth determined to experiment with residential forms and social conventions occupied the place. Since then, Christiania has lived through turbulent times. Our current socially-conversative government are determined to "normalize" the community, which includes a new city plan for the area.
On this day, the demonstration went to the supreme court, where a verdict would be passed regarding the future of the area. Even though the area is likely to change in coming years, the old-timers - like this one - insist that Christiania in its old, alternative spirit "can't be killed".
