Photographer's Note

The Kings of Bohemia originally founded this castle as a guarding castle in the mid-13th century.

In 1661, the castle was bought by Jan Adolf I of Schwarzenberg and his family lived in Hluboka until the end of 1939 when the last owner emigrated overseas to escape from the Nazis. The Schwarzenbergs twice rebuilt the castle, first in the early 18th century in the Baroque style and later, between the years 1840-71, they carried out an extensive reconstruction in the romantic neo-Gothic style. That reconstruction also included a re-arrangement of the park and the surrounding countryside. The building was influenced by the journeys of the then owner Prince Jan Adolf II of Schwarzenberg and his spouse Princess Eleonore to England and is modelled according to the royal castle of Windsor.

Tower was built after 1847 on the sight of the collapsed tower of the Baroque chateau. It was built in neo-Gothic style and is 52 metres high.
