Photographer's Note

This is "Maslinicko Zdrilo", a sea canyon, or better to say a narrow channel connecting the sea of Novigrad (Novigradsko more) with the Adriatic. The sea of Novigrad is rather shallow bay where the water is a bit less salty then for the rest of Adriatic, due to the river Zrmanja flowing into it. Due to this you can find some eels, that are actually very tasty - try them if you are around.

The stony, barren banks of Zdrilo are washed by the strong northern wind Bura, which blows from the mountain chain of Velebit throughout the whole year, but most severely during the winter, sometimes lowering the air temperature below zero. You can also see in the distance a famous, or better to say infamous highway bridge of Maslenica (Maslenicki most) which was built on a wrong place so that due to Bura at least once a month is closed for traffic. Then of course traffic shifts to an old bridge from where this shot was taken.

The bridge of Maslenica was designed by that time vice -prime minister of Croatia (Prof. Jure Radic) which made the whole thing about the bridge rather controversial, and earned him the name Jure "del Ponte" Radic. He still lectures at the university and plans to build even a bigger bridge more south on a Croatian coast. There is not much less controversy about that bridge as well.

But anyhow, I hope you like this scenery and that maybe you will have a chance one day to visit the place and also sail through the channel. I am sure you will enjoy the scenery then even more.

Technical note:

Some highlights have been adjusted and contrast in PS. Cropping with cloning out of the ugly electricity wires.
