During my bicycle trip today, I found this small chapel on 12 km of my home

The Chapel of Our Lady of Advocacy is a field chapel in the town of Knesselare, which is part of the East Flemish municipality of Aalter, at the Grote-Kapellestraat, at house number 36.

History
The chapel was built in 1735 after a 9-year-old boy, Petrus Cardon, was said to have been miraculously healed by a statue of Mary in a tree. The chapel was restored in 1927 and 1974. In 1947 tiles were placed depicting the seven sorrows of Mary.

Building
It concerns a rectangular field chapel with a gable end that is swung in and out and above the entrance door a gable stone with the text: Anno 1735 .O.L.Vrauwe Vorspraecke-Bidt voor ons. In the interior is a gable stone with chronogram: The first stone can be seen at the rear facade, below the calvary, with the text: Ersten stone Petrus Bernardus Cardon. Fil. Peter. anno 1735. audt 9 years and alf.

Interior
The miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary is made of polychrome wood. Above is a painting, made by J.B. Maes in 1791. There are also some statues of saints.

Hello John,
You had a slightly overcast sky today, but that gave you wonderfully mild and subdued colours. The nearest tree shows that autumn has arrived. A small chapel by the road like this, and the large crucifix in the garden, would be a rare sight in my officially Lutheran but very secular country.

Hallo John, this small chapel is located in a countryside area. It comprises a tower, a garden where there is a cross. The yellow and orange leaves start to appear on the trees. Autumn has started. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Well photographed this original chapel with this house on the right side, nice colors with in particular green tones for door and windows, pleasant also the beginning of fall tones for leaves, tfs.

Een prachtig klein juweeltje in het landschap.
Waarschijnlijk zie je dit snel over het hoofd als je hier met de auto langsrijdt dus de fiets is hier het beste vervoermiddel.

Deze foto heeft al echt een herfstige sfeer met de plassen op straat en de bladeren die langzaam aan het verkleuren zijn. De kapel en het huis ernaast zijn heel aantrekkelijk en worden mooi omringd door de bomen.

Hello John,

I get the impression that you just happened to find this chapel, though not seem before! What a cycle ride of discovery!
The weather was not wonderfully sunny, in fact, it looked as if it could have been raining earlier but that sky, with wrinkled clouds, makes a very effective backcloth against which to show off the honey-coloured stone of the chapel, and the tree with its autumnal colours.

As always, a fine composition.

Wat een mooi kapelletje! Wanneer je het vergelijkt met het huis aan de rechterkant oogt het zelfs niet eens heel klein.
De deur staat open, wachtend op bezoekers.
Een mooie compositie, uitstekende scherpte, aantrekkelijke kleuren met zelfs reeds wat herfsttinten.
Niet meteen de meest zonnige dag maar de lucht met de vele wolken oogt echt heel mooi.

what a charming chapel. So stylish so elegant and seems to be located at the cross roads, although there is a house next to it as well.
The weather was quite challenging but you managed to record as well some features in the sky.

Hi John,

Here in Qld I have to go a long way south or 1000 metres in elevation to see such Autumn colours. The latter is closer at places like Warwick, Stanthorpe and Tenterfield. Good sharpness & a nice diffused light. Tfs!
