GAND, PREDIKERENBRUG.

Spans the River Leie

The Predikherenbrug is located at the Predikerenklooster, which in turn visibly borders the St. Michael's Church along the Leie.
In 1322 there was talk of the “other Jacoppinen brucge”. In 1367 it was "ter Jacopine brugghe".
During the French occupation, the occupier spoke of the “Pont de Cicéron” and “Quai de Cicéron”. However, the Gentenaars stuck to Predikherenlei or “Quai des Dominicains”.
In 1265 it was a stone bridge with a narrow passage. In 1754 the bridge was replaced by a wooden swing bridge to which the necessary adjustments were made in 1813 and then in 1862. Only in 1882 was there the relocation of a new swing bridge.

During the reconstruction in 1973, the bridge was provided with a steel construction for the benefit of traffic mobility.
