Beguinage of Leuven
From the end of the 16th century, and especially after the Twelve Years' Truce in the 17th century, the beguinage had a second flowering period with an afterglow until the French Revolution. The peak in the number of vocations is situated in one or two generations around 1650-1670, when the number of beguines rose to over 360. After that, the number of beguines through wars (including the Nine Years' War) and diseases fell to about 300 around 1700 (in the literature often unjustly highlighted) and until about 250 later in the 18th century. This short-lived peak also explains the homogeneity in the building stock, which almost completely came about in the years 1630-1670. It is also striking that the beguine population in Diest almost equal (although around 1700 calves a little faster) while in the Beguinage of Lier the bloom was later (which gave rise to a construction campaign in the Grachtkant, half a century after the last expansion in Leuven)
I hope that you enjoy it

Hello John,
What a wonderful view. I love these dark brick walls and the cobbled street. The trees in the courtyards on both sides indicate pleasant areas inside the dark compounds. The photo gives us a long perspective along the street, where a few persons animate the view.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John, So many old photos lately on TE. Beautiful red bricks houses from this beguinage in Leuven. It is a fascinating city. Wonderful view of this narrow cobbled street. Nice inclusion of the family going. I visited beguinages in some other towns as well. I found them very interesting.

Hello John, this is a delightful scene, the beautiful bricks are testimony to the age of the buildings.
An excellent point of view, and as always, excellent sharp focusing.
Thank you, this one is going to my favourites.

Ciao John
molto belle queste architetture in mattoni rossi, bello il luogo, purtroppo ho visto solo quello di Brugge.
Ottima foto, bella prospettiva a cui partecipano anche delle persone ravvivando la scena.

Hi John
A charming 17the century cobblestoned street with good sharpness and superb diminishing linear perspective with the converging lines leading the eye inexorably towards the bg. Tfs!

Hi John
I call this Chocolate Box Cottage, such a lovely setting I thought it's some sort of hidden place. Lovely saturated colours there and beautifully laid out but the green vegetation is just begging to fill it up and balance out the image, the visitors are there to make it happen! Excellent shot and sharing the info notes, Congrats
Best regards

Hi John
Good photo of the old street and it needed the people to break up the lines.

Hello John,
What a delight to look along this beautiful street with these lovely brick built houses. The people provide a suitable focal point to which we are guided by the cobbled roadway. Superb rendering of the colours and all that delightful textural detail.

Hello John,
This is a wonderful scene and your photographs shows the historic buildings and roadway with exquisite details. It really feels like a step back in time! Only the figures, dressed in modern clothes, bring it into the 21st century!
I like your chosen viewpoint, the converging buildings ensuring that viewers follow your intended route and have opportunity to perceive the ancient, cobbled road surface as well the graceful, red-brick buildings.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

A very nice photo of the old narrow street, a bit of romanticism, brick houses and a coblestone street, seemingly nothing special, but a romantic corner regards Ryszard

Hi John.
What a wonderful street that would move us centuries ago, if it were not for the tourist with his shorts and family, ideal brick facades and that cobbled street, the green of trees in the courtyards is a perfect touch.
Very beautiful colorful, in a few tones, very attractive.
Good management of brightness and superb sharpness.
Very well done. My congratulations.
All the best and have a good start to the week.
Luis.
