Yesterday I did another bike trip to Damme.

Zwinnevaart en old bridge Damme

The Zwinnevaart or Eienbroekvaart is a watercourse that is a remnant of the Zwin that was called the Oud Zwin.
The Zwinnevaart runs nowadays from the Isabellavaart at hamlet Legerbrug via Schapenbrug along Oostkerke to the hamlet Pereboom north of Damme.
From 1621 the Zwinnevaart was deepened and channeled to serve a military purpose, because it became part of the Linie van Fontaine.
Since the construction of the Schipdonk Canal (1846-1860) and the Leopold Canal (1843-1854), the westernmost part was cut off and the Zwinnevaart flowed into the Leopold Canal. Since then, the canal has served as a drainage channel.

I hope you can enjoy.
