Skenderbeg, a photo from Tirane, North

Photographer's Note

A statue of Skanderbeg mounted on a horse in the Tirane Square named after him. He was an Albanian freedom fighter who rebelled against the occupying Ottomans between 1443 to 1468 AD. He lived from 1405-1468 AD when he died of malaria in Venetian controlled Lissus. Venice was a key allied power against the invading Turks. After his death the 1st Venetian Ottoman war continued until 1479. The Ottomans gradually reclaimed all the territory they had lost in Albania but the Venetians captured Cyprus. Horrific around here at the moment. We've had bags packed for a couple of days ready to leave but so far have been lucky. Many others haven't and now our PM "discovers" the fires!
More: Totally agree with your comments, especially about the last farce! But is Dutton waiting to pounce ( a scary thought)

Hi Chris,
I have to admit I don't know much about the history of Albania. I have learned so much from your note.
This is a great picture here. The silhouette of the rider is so unique especially with the hat or helmet he wears.
It is set against a fantastic sky here. The effect is spectacular.

Hello Chris,
The famous statue is nicely silhouetted against the sunset sky. I was in Tirana twice, in 2009 and 2011. The first time this square looked the same as it had done during the communist years, but in 2011 major renovations had started and the whole square was surrounded by a high fence. I have seen from recent photos that it was transformed from a sterile square to a nice green park. It's like they threw away the last visible remains of Hoxha rule.

Chris, a statue was built in tribute to this National hero at a main square in Tirana. It is represented as a horserider mounted on his horse. It was the twilight, only the memorial silouhette is visible. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Bonjour Chris,

J'apprécie le jeu entre les zones éclairées et les zones ombragées. La prise de vue permet de voir certains détails de la statue de Skanderberg. Le lever ou coucher de soleil donne de belles couleurs au ciel. Bonne journée.

Hello Chris,

If you want to add drama to a hero, surely this is the way to do it!
The silhouetted figure is perfectly positioned in the frame and stands out strongly against the bright b/g sky.

Hello Chris,
This is the best way to display the statue of such an ancient folk hero. His silhouette beautifully shows the warrior at the end of the day after he has freed his country from the evil enemy.
