Photographer's Note
We have visited Grenada on a number of occasions and stay in a hotel at the north end of the island. There is a small beach and on this occasion it had become infested with sargassum weed, quite an ugly thing but obviously it traps all sorts of wildlife. A friend told me this is a juvenile Yellow crowned night heron. I watched for ages as it rummaged through the weed. It eventually came up with this octopus. It struggled with it for a while as the octopus wrapped itself around the bird's beak.I stood very still watching and then someone else came on the beach and frightened it and it ran off, clutching the octopus.

Hi David,
This is quite a catch! Both for the bird and for you :)
I have a photo of puffin holding the fish in its beak but octopus is so much more interesting!
The light was challenging and may be it was not your favourite setting but nevertheless it is a fantastic shot.
Interestingly, I talked to my wife about Grenada last weekend, but as close as we got to it were the Bahamas, so per se we have not visited the Caribbean yet.

Hi David
We are used to seeing water birds with fish in their mouths but this is very different - a great capture of the heron with an octopus.
cheers

Hello David,
I wonder if this is a first!
I don't remember seeing this bird previously!
By your stealth, you have captured a very well composed, sharp exposure of the bird and its fight with the octopus.
I can imagine, from its plumage, that it is easily camouflaged.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
