Photographer's Note

This is the first night of the Vietnamese New Year called Tet. How do the Vietnamese celebrate it? There are two ways of doing it. one i would say is traditional, more home and family based and the other is outside the house for the public. I was invited to my friend's family to participate in a family celebration part.

So before midnight 'my aunt' put two stools with food and other things that would ensure proper life of her dead father's soul in the doorway. There was everything he liked: cigarettes, fruit, fake dollars, chicken and so on. When clocks stroke 24.00 offering time came. She lit incense sticks and prayed. Then she burnt all the paper money and paper clothes from the other stool for the dead father and the next day we could eat the food she'd prepared. it was only the first day. the next two days there were family gatherings, food and talk. The Vietnamese also pay visits to their former and current teachers as they respect them much. This reverence is because of confucianism that had an effect on the society.

only sharpened, no other changes were made
