Photographer's Note

Guess why the church is called Notre Dame Cathedral. Simple, it was built in 1889 by the French. I'd say it's one of many signs of French colonialism in the former Indochina region (created out of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia).

Their influence in Vietnam was immense. They promoted catholicism as well as simplified version of writing system which is an adopted version of Latin alphabet instead of Chinese characters.
