Photographer's Note

A new day just began at this fish market located in Hoi An, showing its hustle and bustle on the quayside along Thu Bon river. This is the main reason to get up very early before sunrise as I stood for a while in the dark waiting for daybreak. I could only see shadowy figures, plenty of conical hats and the arrival of fishing boats on the waterways, but all was revealed when the sun rose.

So much going on as the boats unloaded the catch of the night and sold immediately on deck in the open air. I watched in complete awe at the events but quickly got used to the chaotic situation. The Vietnamese women, especially work really hard hand in hand with their menfolk because there is no other way to put food on the table.

This activity ends at around nine in the morning and the cycle repeats itself the next day ....
