Ladies of Bukhara, a photo from Bukhara, West

These 2 ladies in Bukhara were happy for their photo to be taken but were much more interested in talking to my wife with her total lack of Uzbek and their limited English.
It turned out that they were internal tourists on their first visit to Bukhara from much farther east.
Notice the gold teeth (popular in Uzbekistan).

And someone was surprised at my travelogue for Uzbekistan also including South Korea (was it Paul?). There is a simple reason. The quickest route to Uzbekistan from Australia is via South Korea and we like Asian stopovers. One extra reason is that our daughter-in-law is Korean.

Haha, the golden teeth are very popular in Uzbekistan :). I chatted a lot with the Uzbek women in Russian. They were always very friendly. nice double portrait.

Lovely portrait, I wouldn't spot the gold but now that you mention it, I did.
The ladies have charming smiles. Traditional scarves contrast with the modern phone.
I asked about Korea a while ago guessing about the plane change but now with the daughter in law it is an extra bonus to go through there.

They are obviously dressed in their nicest clothes and this is a kind of photo that brings nice memories, even though they are looking at your wife. It may not have made much difference if you had asked them to look at you for a second.

curious this flight link between s. korea and uzbeckistan. nice the ladies smiling, the image told us about the gentil aspect of their society and the oriental touch in their eyes too.

Hello Ian,
Yes, it was me who found South Korea and Uzbekistan a bit of an odd travel combination.
Obviously your interest in a country is increased when you have a relative who is from there and you even may be able to visit relatives or friends there.
The fact that Uzbekistan can be reached fastest via South Korea continues to amaze me. I would expect a transfer somewhere in South East Asia or in India. But it is of course possible that you have a shorter waiting time in Seoul or that you simply prefer to interrupt your journey in a country that is not necessarily located between home and your final destination.
Both Uzbek ladies are dressed very nicely.
They have a charming smile and I can well imagine that despite some language problems it was a nice meeting.
