Photographer's Note
Best opened in a new tab for better detail.
For my final posting in this series from the less visited autonomous republic of Karakalpakstan in the west of Uzbekistan here is a group of yurts at Ayaz Kala. This time they have a resident camel. As with the ones at Toprak Kala they do provide accommodation and meals. We had a good lunch in one of them which was well decorated. In the workshop I'll post a photo of the fabric lining our lunch yurt and also one more of the melting fort showing the surrounding desert and yurt camp.
I'll do another revisit to Uzbekistan at some stage taking in more visited areas.

Hi Ian,
Interesting composition with yurts and camel, in a focal point of the view, good sharpness and light contrast, good effect too with the colorful blanket on camel, tfs.

Hello Ian,
Nice photo like taken from a brochure for tourists. A slight pity about the railing, but colours and light are very good. The WS are also interesting.

Gert

Hello Ian,
How interesting!
This is a lovely composition!
The camel, with its colourful cloth-covering makes a very good, strongly placed focal point, whilst the well placed yurts add to the sense of place.
The exposure is excellent.
How good to have a meal inside the yurt, a very original restaurant.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

You have taken this photo in September, but I cant imagine to stay in a yurt in the winter, a very nice series of photos, a kind of reportage from your trip

Hello Ian,
These kind of tents are well known for my people as well, they are called 'jurta' in Hungarian language. My ancestors used to lived in them some 1000+ years ago. As a basic equipment they were equipped with a foldable bathtub made from animal skins. Ancient and pagan Hungarians allegedly liked to keep themselves clean. - Until they met Christianity and it was told them minding the body too much is against the will of God...
Nice photo by the way!
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Ian, an interesting series of pictures from Ayaz Qala.
The camel looks quite contented!
I get an impression of wide open spaces where you could travel for miles and miles without seeing another person?
The textiles are lovely.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
Once I stayed a few nights in a yurt of Kazakh people near the Heavenly Lake in Xinjiang, China.
The yurt was very comfortable and the Kazakh family cooked excellently.
However, they had horses and no camels.
Ayaz Qala has a very different climate, much more desert like than the north of Xinjiang but the yurts look very similar.
Beautiful picture!
Best regards, Paul
