Some detail of the ancient (1st-5th century) abandoned town of Toprak Kala. This was part of a row of vaulted wall niches. The guide didn't mention what the function of them was. I suspect that there has been a little restoration happening as the wall textures aren't as smoothed by the weather as elsewhere.

Definitely better in large format, the details just pop off the screen!
It is interesting how effective baked mud can be in an arid climate. I'm afraid it might not last as long in the U.K!
