Photographer's Note
Both photos are best opened in a new tab for better detail.
A photo of the ancient fortress of Ayaz Kala showing how the weather is gradually melting/washing away the mud that it was built from about 1500 years ago. Those arches were high enough to walk under (head down) - it is one of the main access routes - you can even see my shoe prints near the bottom.
In the workshop is a closer photo of the walls with the row of defensive slits.

Hello Ian,
It's fascinating to see so much remaining after so many years. In many ancient ruins you need a lot of imagination to understand what you're looking at, but here the original structures are very obvious. The WS is also very good but this is a lot more dramatic. Both photos are very crisp and clear.

Gert

Hello Ian,
In 1.500 years a lot has indeed been lost due to wind and weather.
However, these ruins remain impressive.
Very nice with the parts of blue sky visible through the earthen arches.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ian,
Two fine shots, showing the steep access to the fort and the walls of the fort itself.
I wonder why the mud walls are beginning to dissolve! Does that mean climate is becoming wetter, rather than hotter?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ian,
What I find most impressive of this fortress are the walls - from a far distance to near as WS 1.
It may be well enough to defend against marauding nomads but not enough to defend against curious tourists.
I would reckon in another century .... this ancient fortress will be completely gone from the climate changing.
In this case , I'm glad to see it. Thanks for sharing.

I am surprised that the walls of such impermanent material survived up to 1500 years, very good photos showing the state of the fortress

Hello Ian,
Beautiful photos that give us a good idea of this fortress that is slowly being eaten by nature.
Both photos complement each other well so that we get a good image.
Excellent work

Hello Ian,
Great close-up photo of the ancient fortress and its amazing shapes, which you captured here in a great sunlight, which created a very nice contrast with the blue sky.

Hello Ian,
Perhaps it was once a market / agora similar to the one I saw in Izmir, Turkey, which was filled up with sand, dirt and trash over the centuries but used to have shops either side of the arches, with a drainage canal down the centre. Many old fortresses had villages within the citadel walls. Tfs!

Hi Ian,
very eye catching composition making a great use of the lines and shapes. The result has a very attractive geometry and even though there is not much left of the ruins, it feels pleasant for the eye.
Very well saturated colors too.
Excellent reportage,

Hello Ian,
Since I am following this series backwards, I may not have seen the info on this castle. Was it made out of mud? Interesting structure shown pleasantly. 👍🏻👍🏻
