All the glorious architecture of Uzbekistan was great but another standout sight for us were the Neolithic petroglyphs at Sarmish-Say in Navoi province.
You have to drive up a remote dirt road to reach Sarmish-Say gorge. See the WS for the road in. Once there you see petroglyphs carved into the rocks showing animals and humans. The petroglyphs are in quite exposed areas but are in remarkable condition given their age.
They were found relatively recently by children from a summer camp that you pass through on the way up the valley.
In the WS there is also a photo showing just how rugged the gorge is.
This is my last posting for Uzbekistan for the time being but I'll do a revisit to Samarkand at some stage.

Hello Ian,
These carvings are fantastic and their impact is enhanced by the colour of the rock and the cracks that make them look strangely modern. The good exposure and sharpness help us appreciate the artistic beauty even more. Both WS provide interesting complements. The scenery in WS #2 looks really tough.
Best regards,
Gert

The subject is well framed. The point of viuew is showing the details of the petroglyphs. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

the ancient artworks are very visible here, looks there is a panther and a mastodon in the images, amazing pieces of art.
I presume you saw images of the accident with tourists in a boat cruiser in a canyon in Brazil. check the video bellow:

Hi Ian,
At first I spotted the precariously positioned slabs of overhanging rock, but then the warmer toned petroglyphs on the blue grey bg leaped out at me. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
The Neolithic petroglyphs make a very interesting change from all the beauty of blue tiles and domes in religious buildings.
I like to see these rock carvings but I'm equally impressed by the amazing rugged nature in your three photos.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ian,
Three fine photos, the petroglyphs in the main entry are interesting, the rough side is otherworldly and the road that goes through the stream is charming.
Regards,
MT
