Photographer's Note

Happy New Year to everyone on TE. May 2022 be a much healthier and better year.
During the soviet era many grand old buildings in Bukhara fell into serious disrepair. This included a lot of madrasas (Colleges for Islamic instruction) and mosques.
In the main photo you can see a madrasa that is being restored. Someone mentioned that it is destined to be a tourist shopping complex. On the right is that stork a work supervisor?
The WS photo shows a run down part of Bukhara with empty buildings.

Hello Ian,
Happy 2022 to you too. Let's hope that we will return to normal life without restrictions. I do not remember this part with the ruined madrasas and mosques. What a pity that these beautiful buildings are in a state of disrepair. Is it a real stork? I have seen some fake storks. Nice detail.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Ian,
Happy New Year to you as well.
It's always interesting to see photos showing what can be found just outside the regular tourist views. It's good to know that restorations are being done. The WS (I see only one) makes me think it could have been from somewhere in Afghanistan, where some beautiful buildings are completely rundown.

Gert

Hi Ian,
The point of view is showing the details of the madras under renovation. The presenc eof the stork is animating the scene. The quality of the light beautifies the colors. Happy New Year.

Hello Ian,
Very important that building become restored.
Demolition are no good solutions, to expensive and the nice old buildings to disappear
Nice composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

Hi Ian,nice pics, but the main is truly great,i remember the work in progress there, so long and so difficult because the architechtures are very rich of decorations. I like the stork as supervisor, like tha usual old men watching this kind of moments...ehehe....have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hi Ian
Interesting image of less known part of Bukhara (which may become one of the best known parts after the restoration work is over). Many people criticise the way the monuments of Samarkand have been restored but if attracting tourists is the motivation for the local authorities to look after this old architecture... I guess, so be it. Much as I like to photograph old and crumbling relics of the past.
I like the colourful washing you included in the bottom left corner.
Thank you and Happy New Year to you too!

Hi Ian,
The ancient structures are so impressive and they dominate the scene but as you point out we see several other interesting elements like the undisturbed stork in the middle of the street or the tourist shop in the left with some colorful items.
Great weather helped you to achieve a very photogenic outcome,
M

Hello Ian.
Wow ..... what a marvel of images it is like taking a leap into the past, everything we see in this composition is beautiful,
I have been in these places for so many years, that I did not remember them as splendid, when the Covid ends in the world, it will be one of the first destinations where I will go.
Magnificent composition and color.
Good job. I love the photo.
Have a good week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Ian,
It is good to see that they are restoring this beautiful edifice, However, I wish they had a more noble use for it than a shopping complex.
Regards,
MT
