Photographer's Note
Please open in a new tab for the better version.
The Bakha ad-Din Nakshband complex in Bukhara has many timber structural posts but some are well worn and in need of restoration work or even replacement.
Here you see one of the posts that was in poor condition with a worker undertaking repairs.
I'll be having a brief pause from TE whilst we get down to serious Christmas business. See you all in a few days and hope that for those where Christmas is relevant that you have a good one and may 2022 be a much better one.

Hello Ian,
The post looks to be seriously affected by woodworm. I wonder if they have treatments for such nasties!
I have seen ancient, wooden features repaired on TV but wonder if this guy has the necessary products. I'm not questioning his skill.
I see this was in the time before Covid but I wonder if he would need a mask for the work he is doing.
Have a lovely Christmas,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian
its been a long time, I'll have to review your gallery and check for abandoned buildings. but first...this caught my attention. This is a country high up on my list, but not sure it would be for my wife. and...living in Western Canada...this is a looooooong flight for us. very cool and interesting, we don't usually see such scenes on TE from this country, love it. enjoy your Xmas! cheers

Fascinating. These wooden structure must require a lot of work, we rarely thing about it but it must be really challenging to keep them in a good condition.
Hope you had a nice break and the serious Christmas business went to plan! :-)
Best wishes

Hello Ian,
Excellent photo taken with the right balance. I like how the restorer focuses on its job, sharpening his tools.
Best Wishes,
Gy
PS: Regarding your mother's folding camera: it is most probably 'eats' 120 roll film. Kodak, Ilford still offers them both in colour and BW at various ISO speeds. (You may also wanna try Lomography films). Larger camera stores and ebay are good sources. I can only encourage you to give it a try! You won't regret. ;-)
