Photographer's Note

The Registan Square is the heart of Samarkand. The word "Registan" means "sandy place".

The Registan ensemble consist of the Ulugbeck madrasah (1417-1420), the Tillya-Kari madrasah (1646-1660) and the Sher-Dor madrasah (1619-1636) - from left to right on the photo.
