Un dvarapala est une divinité gardienne de portes des temples et monastères bouddhiques et hindouistes. Elle peut être représentée sous une forme humaine ou démoniaque, parfois armée d'une massue, d'une lance ou d'un trident et d'aspect farouche.
Ces représentations prophylactiques sont communément placées par paires de part et d'autre du jambage des portes, mais de plus petites structures ne sont pourvues que d'un seul dvarapala, d'autres plus importantes en comptant jusqu'à douze, toujours positionnés par paires.

Dvarapala is a door or gate guardian often portrayed as warrior or fearsome asura giant, usually armed with a weapon, the most common is gadha mace.
These statues were traditionally placed outside Hindu or Buddhist temples, as well as other structures like royal palaces, to protect the holy places inside. A dvarapala is usually portrayed as an armed fearsome guardian looking like a demon

bonjour patrick. never tired of these stupas and dragons watching them. interesting how all the religions made use of spires as important architectural elements to reach the skies. it is more interesting to see so many pinpoints reaching the sky in these buddhist temples even though the god is not sitting in the clouds. majestic low POV and good light falling on gold.

La ville impériale avec ses beaux temples de Bangkok est une belle attarzione pour nous touristes occidentaux! Très belle photo avec votre POV de fond avec les sommets des temples qui se dressent dans le ciel et les dieux Dvârapâla sur la droite qui gardent juste titre les temples!

This has to be a beautiful golden temple there with its painstaking detail impressively composed from low pov with all the 'needles' seem to be reaching the sky majestically and the convergence gives a splendid taste and depth to this. The exposure control is almost unbelievable with excellent effect and by getting this close is great ideas Nice exploitation of the situation, it's really sharp in good colouring and breath taking enveloped by wonderful low clouded sky. A pleasure to view, Congrats

La divinité gardienne de portes a l'air assez effrayant :) Et dans cette vue vers le haut aussi immense.
Très beau comment les 'aiguilles' pointus atteignent le ciel tropical.
C'est sans doute un temple où on peut prendre énormement des photos magnifiques.

Hello Patrick,

Une photo vraiment intéressante où tous les éléments "reach for the sky".

L'effet est très dynamique, alors que l'ensemble des stupas semblent se diriger vers un même point de fuite stratosphérique. La partie du ciel couverte par les nuages permet au dvarapala de se détacher de l'arrière-plan et de lui conférer une présence qui assure un bel équilibre dans la composition. Cadrage soigné et bien meublé.

Les "pointes" semblent toutes se diriger vers un même point du ciel sous l’œil plus ou moins bienveillant de la divinité et sous la conduite du temple d'or.Très bonne compo pour cette très intéressante photo.

Hi, And quick jump to hot Thailand. beautiful picture of all these chedis or stupas pointing in the sky. I like the this guardian. The architecture of this complex in Bangkok is really amazing, every detail is so fine. Excellent composition.

Hello Patrick - I think your composition with the guardian placed overlooking the stupas works really well here, it does look as if the statue is watching over them and this feeling is emphasised by the way he is leaning towards them. I think the light here is lovely, not too sharp but gently bringing out the sheen on the golden stupa. I like this a lot. Warm regards Rosemary

Good composition with a guardian of the temples. I am not sure about the Hindu temples, but in Buddist culture these warriors are everywhere. Perfect sharpnes and great colors. TFS! Very nice postcard style.
