Photographer's Note

A local in the small town of Haemi, in rural South Korea, begins harvesting the rive with a machete. In the old days they would do the whole field like this, with many young men employed. These days, however, they just cut away enough to allow the rice harvesting truck/machine to get into the field, and the task is done in hours with minimal labour. Perhaps this has led to many manual labour jobs disappearing from rural parts of Asia, as young people flock to the big cities for less labour intensive work.
