"Final Approach", a photo from Bedok, East

Photographer's Note

I'm normally up at about 6am, getting ready for work.
But this is Saturday- my day off.

5:45am my alarm goes off, and I managed to make it to Singapore's East Coast Park for sunrise. My first stop was Bedok Jetty, a long jetty always teeming with early risers; fishing, cycling, jogging, roller-blading, or just walking their dogs.
The East Coast Parkway is quite close to Singapore's Changi Airport, and from the pier you can watch the planes in turn coming in for landings.

For this shot I metered the brightest area of the scene, and focused on the plane till it was where I wanted it against the bright sunrise.

Bright colors this morning (no color adjustment).

Hi Dan,

What a wonderfull capture of sunrise! What impressed me is that considering that you had a moving target to shoot the exposure, composition and focus are correct to get a nice silhoutte of the plane and such amazing colors. Great job!

Hi Dan,
It was worth rising at such an early hour to capture this. The varying cloud patterns with the superb light make for an enchanting effect. The glow on the water seems nicely diffused. Did you use a filter with this? Cheers.

Wow Dan incredible capture with this jet in the perfect spot. Very lovely colors rendered in the sky drama photo. I really think you planned this well by metering the brightest spots and let the rest fall in darker for a real dramatic sky. Very nice!

I see you have the 5D also. Big improvement for me over 10D. But, the 10D got me started 3 yrs ago. I will be watching your photos..cheers

Great sunrise shot with a difference Dan. The sillhouette of the plane is excellent and the colour in the sky was deffinitely worth getting up early for.

I just followed the link you provided in your panorama picture and Wow ! This is also perfect. The king of the skies, a boeing 747, is on approach. Those guys at Airliners.net probably would love to have this one too :)
