Photographer's Note
One of many Dagestan villages, out of necessity in the past built on top of mountains or rocks. Nowadays, most of those are abandoned, their residents having moved to lower grounds. This is the atmospheric village of Goor, whose houses have mostly been rebuilt a few hundred meters below, while towers remain standing as eery reminders of the past. This village has a dedicated guide, Ibrahim, whose story of the village makes the harrowing trip on bad roads even more worthwhile.

Hello Tanja
Such a volatile place to go and take images. The place must hold many secrets and unspeakable beauty from such high viewpoints. Interesting image and note, nice

Hello Tanja
It's a beautiful scene and thanks for uploading it, as Russians I met strongly advised me to avoid Dagestan. The small plateau at right with its old buildings and ruins adds interest. Tfs!

Hello Tanja,
What a spectacular view. The large version looks very impressive, with great detail in the cliffs and town ruins. The mountains in the background are dramatically lit by the sun which emphasises their rock strata.
