The main source of income for the local people was tourism which was totally disrupted by the last year's earthquake (October 8), the city of Balakot that was virtually completely destroyed is in Kaghan Valley, and the road upto Naran is still in bad shape (it was an excellent road until the quake), on a couple of places there are continuous landslides (we got stuck for several hours at one of them), and the number of visitors has reduced to a small fraction of the original number. It was a piece of heaven, only at a few hours' drive from the capital Islamabad (unlike the Northern Areas; Islamabad to Gilgit by road is 20-24 hours).
