Photographer's Note

As evening falls in the Himalayas, a carpet of fog climbs up the Khumbu Valley towards the tiny settlement of Gorak Shep, one of the highest inhabited cluster of the buildings anywhere in the world (5,150 metres above sea level). The mountains in the background are Kantega 6,856m and 6,623m Thamseku. During the night that we spent here, many avalanches could be heard and the glaciers cracked and rumbled relentlessly.
