Photographer's Note

Taken in one of the villages in which we stayed, we were there for a while so people got used to us which allowed us to take quite intimate photos in their houses. I loved watching her climb, with her old spindly legs onto her verandah where she spent most of the afternoon preparing for the evening meal which her daughter cooked. Here she peels garlic, her hot-water flask ready for her tea. Her cabinet behind her with her most treasured possessions.

About the strangest food preparation I saw in Vietnam was ladies cracking open snail shells in Hoi An, & putting the shells in empty icecream buckets, but placing the snail meat straight onto the pavement! Anyway a good portrait of this old woman with excellent colour and sharpness. Tfs!

how could i possibly pass up on this photo?
the visual is just TOO interesting and eye catching.
Not only for her, but the items on the floor, and in the cabinet behind her, and the overall compo is so unique - but very familiar to Asian culture as this is how they often sit.
We here in North America & Europe do not sit like this :)

This is a splendid and well exposed photo. A well captured portrait of the woman peeling garlic. It`s hard to imagine how she manage to sit like this and do her work at the same time. Of course the equipment and the cabinet makes the scene even more interesting. Fine work:) TFS.
