Photographer's Note

to start with, i know that burma is now called myanmar, but ive always liked calling it burma.

got some photographs from burma today, i was over the top when my parents mistook them for those of mccurry's. burma is my favourite place in the whole wide world. i went there to search for it's heart and soul. yangon was the heart and the burmese people were the soul i found. this country is also one of the most colourful that ive come across. the people here are the best ive come across. they're the personification of honesty, kindness, gentleness etc etc etc ( every other virtue known to man) every artist has a muse, ive found mine to be burma.

this photograph was i think my first or one of my first few . it was taken in the bus station right outside yangoon. i saw him waiting at one of the bus agency sheds . he was eveything i could think of burma. he was chewing on betel nuts while i made his portrait.
