Photographer's Note

The fourth or fifth day of our trip, we went to Kakku to enjoy the Full Moon festival, a national day for the Pa-O tribe, also an important event for all Burmese for who astrology is so special. The Pa-O tribe is a rural tribe living on the countryside and hills surrounding the Inle lake. They are quite easy to recognize thanks to their dragon-shaped traditional hat.

We took part of the audience for different events in the Kakku site known for its stupa forest : a Pa-O traditional song contest and a Chinlon match : an amazing kind of beach soccer with a volley net and a wooden ball. Today, you need to ask for a Pa-O guide to be able to reach that beautiful area.

On the way back to Nyaung Shwe, we visited a new golden pagoda in the middle of the countryside and a nearby Pa-O village.

Full Moon is an important event for most Burmese people who will try to join a local festival and spend the full night enjoying puppet demonstration, traditional play or music. That kind of event is called "Pwe".
