Photographer's Note
The corridor, or our local people named it as the 'Five feet base'(五脚基) was added to the facade of old shop lots that built during the British settlement period.
Five feets wide is the measurement set by the colonial government. The initial purpose to add this structure for the buildings is to solve the problem lead by windy, rainy and sunnier weather at tropical regions, it was become the walking space later.
The venitian blind made by bamboos showing in the right of this photo is also useful to block the bright and hot sunlight. Mosaics are the old materials for construction works too, some of the shop holders demolished the mosaics' floor and replece it with new tiles. In this photo, you can find the different between the materials use for the foreground and background corridor.

Hi Ally,
A nice picture of the patterns that repeat in this scene. Although I like the choice of the monochrome, I wish the saturation were a bit less (its looking slightly green).
Interesting note as well...
best wishes,

Hello Ally,
Very beautiful picture and good choice for the sepia colour (I don't see any green on my screen).
Also a good choice for the vertical format because you wanted to show us the walking space. That way also the arches are presented better.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ally,
The point of view is sending my eyes down the corridor which is giving depth to the composition. Using the black and white is bringing out the details of the architecture. The subject is well framed. Have a nice day.

Hello Ally, I like your PP work here it has given it an authentic old look. I found it a little unusual walking along the streets in Kuching, in places very similar to this that the the path was always uneven & at a different height. Nice sepia tones, very effective. Compliments.
Thanks

Bonjour Ally,
J'aime ce traitement sépia qui donne à cette photo de ce passage un air d'autrefois. Ces galeries étaient bien utiles pour se déplacer lors des intempéries ou des trop grandes chaleurs.

Hi Ally,
everything of the used materials,as the existence of the corridor too, had their practice for the natives in the difficult weather conditions.I like this Sepia format as the creative perspective of the scene.A nice reportage shot.

Hi Ally.
Wonderful image and a right choice the B & W for this composition, which would make it timeless and seems to move to the colonial era.
I love the vertical lines that contrast with the arches, very good depth of image, the use of light is stunning. A beautiful work, congratulations.
Best regards.

Hi Ally
very nostalgic image really, the feel of the '60s, and well preserved. i think there is not much can be seen apart from malacca/penang nowadays. wonderful atmosphere and your shot in bw is very well done with so much detail to look at, the floor, the wall, arch, pillars. And of course the Bamboo Blind which is rarely seen now. Timely shot, good inclusion of that man to add some live to this splendid image. thks for sharing.

Greetings Ally,
A lovely shot - and it was a good decision to go B&W. The lines and textures, especially in the foreground are really important in this shot and the monochrome helps to emphasise these features. great work, thanks, Iain
