Photographer's Note

I was invited into a monks "room" when I was visiting Oudomxai. When I arrived with him at the monestary, many of the other young monks were in prayer in the Vihara. He asked me to join them and I went inside and followed suit. It was an incredible experience be in such a situation and to hear them chanting in unison. When it was finished and my smiling new friend led me out, all the other monks stared at me curiously and I was led to his aforementioned "room". It was a painted wooden construction about the height of a toolshed and the size of a large coffin, yet surprisingly cozy inside. As we started chatting about this and that more and more monks started gathering outside his door, looking inside curiously. it was extremely awkward but I chose to take the humor out of the situation and start goofing around, so I gave them my little wooden buddy and started making funny noises, which would send them into fits of laughter, at which point I would fire off a shot. They really were interested in me and the crowd didnt dispurse untill I told my friend that it was time for me to go. One of the more bizarre things that has happened to me on my trip. I hope you enjoy the photo.
