Photo prise à Gion. Ce vieil home, vraisemblablement une habitué du quartier, expliquait quelque chose à deux jeunes femmes concernant la fameuse pagode (qu’il est en train de pointer du doigt). L’aspect très amical de leur conversation et le contraste entre la touriste jeune, élégante, à la peau lisse et ce vieillard au visage parcheminé m’a tout de suite attiré.
J’ai choisi une version sépia au cadrage rapproché. Dans le WS, vous trouverez une autre version.

Taken at Gion. This old man, probably someone who knows very well the area, was giving explanations to two women about the famous pagoda (which he’s pointing). The aspect very friendly of their conversation and the contrast between the young and elegant woman, with smooth skin, and this old man with wrinkled skin attracted me.
I chose a sepia version with a close crop. In WS, I add another version.

I like the way this fills the frame Olivier - the woman's gaze and the old man's expression and the way they arer looing into their own spaces off camera give this a very nice candid feel - a moment where their awreness is somewhere else than on you ...but it also looks as if both are aware of you too - so candid in a wider sense...I think the sepia and colour versiions are Ok although I tend to favour a less brown version of sepia these days - especially for lighter and more modern subjects.

Beau double portrait bien composé et bien traité en sépia. J'aime également l'autre version avec pour préférence pour celle-ci en ce qui concerne le cadrage un peu moins serré. Merci.

Tres fort ca, Olivier. J'aime beaucoup cette PDV avec l'homme tout petit, rabougri et cette belle jeune fille, puissante dans sa jeunesse. Bon choix de ton sepia pale aussi.

Salut olivier,
Très belle composition qui englobe la totalité de la scène avec le doigt du vieil homme pointé vers la droite. Les expressions des visages sont géniales. Si je fais abstraction de mon "problème" avec le sépia, c'est une image parfaite. Je suis impatient de découvrir la suite, après 6 semaines passées là-bas tu dois avoir du stock.
Bon courage pour te réadapter à la vie occidentale ;)

Im with kev on how you fill this. The empty space here is totaly filled to thanks to the gaze and the fonger. They command us to look there, and beyond the frame. Immaculate cropping Olivier, really good.

content de te revoir, alors ce sejour au Japon, la rencontre avec ton nouveau joujou...je retrouve la l'excellente qualite optique du caillou. La lecture de l'image est excellente, d'abord ce superbe visage, ensuite l'autre, puis le doigt qui pointe hors du cadre....

Salut Olivier,

this is a fine composition showing both age and youth and the facial expressions are first class.Having it in sepia is a fine choice though I would like to have seen it in B&W too. Well captured.
