Photographer's Note

A typical residential development through late '80s to early '90s in Japanese cities.

- About 5 km from city center.
- Lot size: 200-300 square m.
- Floor area: 120-200 square m.(self owned)
- Mostly self owned detached houses with 2 floors, some multi family apartments with 2 to 4 floors to let.

In Japan today, some of the houses are built by housing develop companies for sale.
In other cases, land developer prepare the land only.

In the photographed case, public company jointly run by the city of Hamamatsu and Shizuoka pregfecture designed and developed the area for residential purpose.

Those purchased the lot from from this public company made contract with a private house builder.

As the development undergone through '90 on a green field, all of the houses are new.

Other cases:
-Private housing development or simply "sprawl" in '70.

-Tokyo outskirt sprawled at the last turn of the century. google satellite image

-Highway station developed in 17th century.

-Farm village developed in 17th century.

-Strategic outpost between Soma and Sendai since 14th century.

-Private domain which may be more than 1,000 years old
