Photographer's Note
This is one of my favorites. I'm not sure if they still have a "peasant" class in Japan today but they did then. These women usually worked in the fields but unlike today's American mom's they took the kids with them. No "nannys", no pre-school, or any other tricks so Mom can "advance" and be just like dad. Sorry, I don't think the USA made the right choice when they decided two hours of "quality time" was enough to raise children.

Wow. Very touching photo and interesting comments. :) The child is filthy but looks happy. I guess that says something about the family values there. If you ever publis a book of these let me know! I will buy one. ;) JP

Different classes exist here today, but I can't tell who is who as they all carry Chanel bags!
I love this picture, I think I can tell why you might be proud of it.
It has so much charm, and there a huge radiance of warmth too.

Hi Thomas,
Congratulations for this picture and all other in Japan. They are great and I am very surprised that they have received so few critiques so far...
Your pictures are very touching, catch a moment, each of them shows something and are not only technical and esthetical portait.
The black and white is particularly a good idea.
Some may reproach you that your pictures are not sharp but I think it's just a technical problem and is not important...
This picture is one of the best in your japan theme.
