Photographer's Note

I am delighted to see this post. It is meaningful.....as I had been told by a few membes that Japanese donot smile.....what to talk of the laugh.
Here I see totally the different side of the coin.
Though a ew are staring in a diferent direction, the two girls are enjoying hte moment of being shot.
The inadverent cropping of the man from the right......makes him walk into the frame.
The only distraction in this shot is the date 0.06.2008.
You can remove it in the photoshop.

Hello Olrik,
Nice to see all the different expressions here in one shot. Funny to see there is a theme called 'Smiles from Japan'. I would not expect Japanese people to smile all that much ;-). The two women further away at 'Lagerfeld' are typical to me, but the two girls in the foreground with the bikes surely do smile. I wonder if they would still be smiling if they knew they were being observed. ;-)
One guy stepping in the frame, slightly out of focus. Good that way, since it does not take too much attention. A pity of the biker behind him, taking attention.
A pity as well of the 'tag' in the composition. Do like me and put it on the frame. Looks much more attractive.
Thanks for sharing!
Greetings, Dennis

Salut Olrik,
J'aime cette image cotidienne, mais a mon avis pas banale, puisque elle montre un melange d'expressions, rigolantes, serieuses, impassiblement japonaises. On dirait une journee typiquement etoufante et humide d'ete. Bien cadre.
amicalement,
Cristian

The repetition of posese and mimics compared to those who break the pattern is what makes this scene. Well seen.

Hello Olrik. Which is the special at this b& w photo? For me not waiting for the green light, but the fine grey values between black and white. Colored pictures can be converted in very different way into black-and-white photos. You found an optimal method. My acknowledgment for this beautiful and worth seeing photo. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Olivier,
a very dynamic scene, although the people are waiting there seems a lot to be going on. Good composition, nice tones.
