Photographer's Note

Kasuga Taisha Shrine is one of three most famous Shinto shrines in Japan. Along the half miles of walkway from the main road to the shrine, there are thousands of stone lanterns on both sides.

This picture shows the walkway leads to the shrine.

Please read this web page for more information about Kansuga Taisha Shrine. As stated in that web page:
In ancient days the lanterns used to be lit every day, however now you must be lucky enough to visit the shrine on February 3 (Setsubun) or August 14 & 15 (Obon) when you can see all the laterns lit for the Mantoro festival.

It was an early morning when we visited there. We only met another group of two visitors there.
