Photographer's Note

A simple portrait of a Labuapi village family.

The specialty of this village on Lombok island is mask carving. You may have recently noticed in our western capitals (talking about Paris mainly) an invasion of beautiful oval shaped colourful indonesian masks, called Topeng Lombok. There are chances that most them were being carved in Labuapi.
I bought a bunch of 'em for nothing here, not that I'm a guy that bargains to death, but that's welcomed as a socializing attitude in Indonesia and also a way to improve my poor bahasa indonesia language.

With regards to this pic, the woman asked me to photo her with her baby, i didn't notice first, but the father went sneaking into the frame in the background. I think it's better like that, as the soft image of the man adds a tri dimensional sense to the pic.
