Photographer's Note

From the top of Jama Masjid minaret the view above old Delhi is amazing. This shot was taken overlooking the courtyard of the mosque when I noticed a child that was playing with the pidgeons.

The Jama Masjid is the biggest mosque in India and was built by Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan and stands on a hill, making it dominate the surrounding markets.

The mosque is entered by broad flights of steps, which lead to the imposing gateways - beyond which is a huge courtyard. Bulbous domes crown the main prayer hall on the west. At the corners of the courtyard rise slender minarets. From their top one can have a superb and unrivaled view over old and new Delhi.
